Cactus Farms is owned and operated by Ron Moritz, Ashley Ellis and family. What began as an equestrian boarding facility has gradually evolved into a thriving sheep farm. While a few of our own horses still call this place home, sheep have become the heart of our operation.
In 2020, as the world faced unprecedented changes, the majority of our boarders—primarily college students—relocated their horses home, leaving our well-maintained pens unexpectedly vacant. With the enclosures quickly overtaken by grass and weeds, we began exploring new ways to make use of the space.
Through conversations with extended family and friends experienced in sheep farming, the idea to raise sheep emerged—and we decided to give it a try. What started as a practical solution soon became a passion. Today, our pens are no longer empty but full of life, and we are very proud of where we are in just a few short years!
